Summer heat and humidity can affect more than just your curly hair –they can also take a toll on your home. There is no better time to repair damage caused by humidity’s increased moisture levels – such as warped doors and melting window glaze – and get your house in tip-top shape while the weather permits.According to the Dremel Experts, summer is a great time to stay on top of home repairs, because the weather usually allows you to work both inside and out. It’s also a good time to touch up all your summer toys and athletic equipment so you’re ready to go whenever friends call on you to join an impromptu game of golf or baseball.
The Dremel Experts shared several popular summer projects that can be completed using Dremel tools:
- Trim doors to a proper fit: If moisture levels have caused your doors to expand and stick when you try to close them, you can easily correct the problem by leveling the door using the Dremel 400 Series XPR rotary tool with its planer attachment or any Dremel rotary tool and sanding band accessory such as No. 430 or No. 445. Establish where the door is sticking by closing the door on a sheet of carbon paper. Use the planer or sand the area where an ink mark was left. To seal, apply several coats of varnish.
- Repair and re-glaze windows: Using a corded Dremel rotary tool or the Dremel 10.8 Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless rotary tool with the high-speed cutter accessory No. 194, remove old, sun- and humidity-damaged glazing from around the windows. Apply a new coat of glazing putty to keep windows looking sharp and more resistant to humidity.
- Clean golf club heads: Clean club heads will help you strike golf balls more effectively. Use a brass brush accessory at a low speed (no more than 15,000 rpm) to effectively clean your clubs without damaging them. The No. 535 brass brush combined with any Dremel rotary tool is especially effective for cleaning grooved areas. Polish with the No. 423 cloth polishing wheel and No. 421 polishing compound.
- Touch up your bicycle: Make your bike look brand new by touching up scratches and rust spots in painted areas. Using an aluminum oxide stone, such as No. 953, on any Dremel rotary tool, grind out scratches or rusty areas until smooth. Apply touch-up paint to prevent rust from forming.
Better than ever, the Dremel 10.8 Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless rotary tool has been upgraded to allow users to get more work done on a single charge. The new 10.8 volt battery pack offers 25 percent more run time than the previous battery pack. Additionally, the battery pack now includes the dovetail feature that allows the use of Dremel attachments such as the 671 FlexLite™ with Magnifier. The tool keeps all the popular features of its predecessor, including variable speeds, 5,000 to 35,000 rpm speed range, soft grip body housing and battery fuel gauge. The best part is, the increased runtime has been accomplished without increasing the size or weight of the tool.The Dremel 10.8 Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless retails for $69.99 in the United States and is available at most hardware stores and home improvement centers nationwide. It includes 40 genuine Dremel accessories, a charger and a molded carrying case.
